14 Important Points to Remember When Erecting Scaffolding
1. When starting to erect the uprights, install one outrigger every 6 spans until the wall ties are stable. These outriggers can then be removed as needed.
2. Use rigid connections for the wall ties, fixed to the concrete columns and beams with expansion bolts. Arrange the wall ties in a diamond pattern, starting from the first longitudinal horizontal bar at the bottom. When reaching a construction point with wall ties, install the wall ties immediately after erecting the uprights, longitudinal horizontal bars, and transverse horizontal bars at that point.
3. The couplers connecting adjacent uprights must not be at the same height. The top of the upright should be 1 meter above the parapet wall.
4. Scaffolding must have ground bracing. Longitudinal ground bracing should be fixed to the uprights no more than 200mm from the base using right-angle couplers.
5. Longitudinal horizontal bars should be erected in a circular pattern around the perimeter, fixed to the inner and outer corner uprights using right-angle couplers. Longitudinal horizontal bars should preferably be installed inside the uprights, with a length not less than three spans. Longitudinal horizontal bars should be extended using butt couplers. Butt couplers should be staggered, and joints of adjacent horizontal bars should not be located in the same span or at the same time. The opening of the butt coupler should face upwards.
6. Scissor bracing should be erected simultaneously with the uprights and longitudinal horizontal bars. The lower end of each bottom-layer diagonal brace must be supported on a base plate. Scissor bracing spans seven uprights, with the diagonal brace at an angle of 45 degrees or more to the ground. Seven sets of scissor bracing should be installed on the front of the scaffold, and three sets on the sides, for a total of 20 sets. Scissor-bracing steel pipes should be extended using an overlapping method, with an overlap length not less than 1 meter, secured with three swivel couplers. The distance from the edge of the end coupler cover plate to the end of the bar should not be less than 100mm. The diagonal members of the scissor bracing should be secured with swivel couplers to the extended end of the intersecting transverse horizontal bar or the upright.
7. Scaffold boards must be fully laid, with boards tightly against each other. When using butt joints, two small horizontal bars should be installed at the joint and securely tied with wire.
8. Dense safety netting should be installed on the outer side of the scaffolding as required, inside the outer row of uprights. The dense netting must be securely fastened to the scaffold tubes. At corners, the dense netting should be securely tied to the uprights using wooden strips. The dense netting must be taut and stretched.
9. A horizontal safety net should be installed 3.2 meters from the first floor, with horizontal bars near the building. The inner edge of the netting should be firmly fixed to the scaffold tubes without gaps. When the building reaches the third floor’s foundation slab reinforcement, another layer of horizontal safety netting should be installed.
10. Erection workers must be qualified professional scaffolders who have passed the safety technical assessment and management rules for special operations personnel.
11. Erection workers must wear safety helmets, safety belts, and non-slip shoes.
12. Scaffolding erection should be stopped during winds of level six or above, and in foggy or rainy weather.
13. Construction work is prohibited under the influence of alcohol.
14. When erecting scaffolding, the ground should be fenced off, warning signs should be set up, and a dedicated person should be assigned to guard it. Non-operating personnel are strictly prohibited from entering.
